Environmental Practices

Our livelihood depends upon the sustainability of natural resources. We are committed to good environmental stewardship and take an active role in protecting our water resources, reducing our packaging, and improving our manufacturing and transportation efficiencies and increasing our recycling initiatives.

For our spring water, Nestlé Waters looks for healthy ecosystems and abundant water supplies. These spring sources must satisfy strict quality and regulatory criteria, as well as unique taste profiles. Extensive hydrogeological studies are used to assess the sustainability and quality of the water source. On our spring properties, 80% of the land surrounding our spring sources (approximately 14,000 acres), is managed as open space.

Our bottling facilities are being regionally located so we can reduce fuel and energy consumption. In our Denver regional plant (and in most of our bottling facilities across the country), we produce our own lightweight bottles. These Eco-Shape bottles are 30% lighter than any other half-liter bottled beverage on the market and enable us to load more bottles on our trucks. Additionally, we have reduced the amount of overall packaging materials, using less shrinkwrap, smaller labels, and eliminating the use of corrugated cardboard.

Nestlé Waters is committed to increasing national recycling rates. In Denver, we recycle approximately 95% of the raw materials used in our factory, a common practice in our bottling facilities across the country.
