Water Use

As a company dependent upon local water supplies to make our products, Nestlé Waters is committed to responsible water management and to respect the interests of our neighbors and the communities where we do business. When we identify a potential water source, we work with local residents and community officials with the goal of being responsive to the concerns that they may have about Nestlé Waters developing that source.

Compared to municipal, industrial and agricultural uses, Nestlé Waters is a relatively small and careful user of water. We also use a smaller amount of water per unit of product compared to other beverage companies. As a comparison, it takes 1.37 gallons of water to make a gallon of Nestlé Waters bottled water, whereas it takes three gallons of water to produce a gallon of soda, and five gallons of water to produce a gallon of beer. (This does not include agricultural and ingredient processing water.) We continuously look for ways to be more efficient in using water when making our products.

Nestlé Waters draws water from approximately 50 spring sites and 20 public water sources. Nearly all sources are listed on the bottle label for each brand. In Denver, our Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water product is sourced from Denver Water and undergoes a 14-step purification process to become Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water brand. Nestlé Waters’ Arrowhead® Brand Mountain Spring Water, currently sourced from California springs, will also be produced from Colorado spring sources and bottled at the Denver facility.
